Gatemouth pretty much stopped recording in the mid-1950's with Peacock later releasing a couple singles. In the mid-60's he returned to the studio to record music that was quite varied and different from his earlier days. In the 70's a long parade of LP releases began that continued up to the turn of the century, shortly before his death when he was in his early 80's. Personally, it's only the late 40's/early 50's Aladdin and Peacock material that is of much interest to me. There are some missing tracks from his 1964-1965 sessions and some of those here sound quite bad. The vinyl is hard to find and quite costly and not really worth the investment to me as the recordings are generally nothing special, although several of them I quite like. Either Sam Andrew or James Gurley of Big Brother & The Holding Company must have caught Gatemouth performing The Cricket before they worked up their song Combination of the Two.
