As the music industry polar flip plowed through 1968, RPM eliminated it's Canadian Hits chart in February, and by April Canadian artist records all but disappeared from the RPM 100 chart. The only record that carried-over into April (barely) was by the Lords of London and during the next 3 months only 3 Canadian artists successfully landed records in the RPM 100, which became just another Top 100 chart akin to those found in Cash Box, Billboard and Record World. Nothing to see here.

Gordon Lightfoot, Witness Inc. and 3's a Crowd were the chosen three. RPM did return a short Canadian Content chart (there's a big difference between "content" and "hits") at some point during the summer of 1968, perhaps following a backlash in regards to what transpired during the Spring.

Let's see......what do we have this time around?

Turning Japanese: there is a song from Japan's Jackey Yoshikawa in English, except for the last verse which is in Japanese, and there is a song from the American New Christy Minstrels sung in Japanese that was a big hit in South Africa. 

Also from the Asian side is another one from Singapore's favorite female singer, Naomi. Small Faces did well in Malaysia with Patterns and the b-side of Claudine Longet's cover of Hello Hello, a song called Wanderlove that has a far-out-sitar-in-it-man, did well in Singapore. Good ol' Claudine. She kills me. 

New Zealand's La De Da's and Mr. Lee Grant had hits there on charts dominated by US and UK hits.

In South Africa, in addition to the New Christy Minstrels song, there were hits from Jody Wayne (called Cookie which is very creepy), Peter Lotis, and The Square Set doing a good song called Silence Is Golden that has nothing to do with the song by the 4 Seasons.

The usual crap from Ireland, although the country-ish Funny Man from Johnny McEvoy is a pretty good song.

From the Scandinavian charts there are 3 records from Denmark, 4 from Sweden and 2 from Norway. One of the Swedish hits was by ex-Manfred singer Paul Jones.

British singer David Garrick hit in Switzerland with Please Mr. Movingman.

There are 4 records from Holland, but 2 of them are by Kenyan-British singer Roger Whittaker.

5 records from Ireland, a few from Holland and one from Norway.

British singers Millie Small and Jonathan King each hit in Singapore with records that didn't crack the New Music Express Top 50 in their homeland.

The b-side of Tommy Roe's 1966 hit Sweet Pea made the Top 10 in South Africa about a year later. And the South African Staccatos (not to be confused with the Canadian Staccatos) hit with a cover of the Bee Gees "Spicks and Specks". 

In New Zealand local bands the La De Da's hit with a cover of Bruce Channel's Hey Baby and Larry's Rebels with a cover of the Creation's Painter Man. Mr. Lee Grant had a crooner-version hit with a cover of Opportunity, which I believe was originally released in the summer of 1963 by Walter Jackson on Columbia and in early 1966 by Peter James on Reprise in the U.S. and later that year in the UK by Roger Cook's brother Jason Dene on Parlophone.
