I agree. It was a great year for music and probably the last year that the 7-inch single was king of the record industry. Personally, I began the year as hockey-playing girl-chasing high school senior but flew in to Bien Hoa on Dec. 14 (about 5 weeks after my 18th birthday) and finished the year as a FNG having a close personal relationship with a M60, so I really didn't get to experience the music of the second half of the year first hand. Only bits and pieces. It's easier to work forward than back, so I'm going to do 1964 next and work up to 1966. I have those two years done but am still piecing together 1965.
I was in England, also in school chasing skirt. My heart goes out to you. I came to the States in 69 as a student visiting an American exchange teacher. I met a few veterans my age and nuff said. I moved here permanently in 75. Whats wrong with 63?
I entered the military voluntarily right out of high school. My choice. Just saying that I agree 1967 was a great year for music, but from mid-'67 to mid-'71 I didn't hear much music and certainly didn't keep up with things. I guess you could say that I didn't "live" it. One good thing from that was that I spent roughly six months in 1969 doing training in Georgia and while there was exposed for the first time to both country music and non-pop black music. I didn't pay much attention to "radio" music until I was a teenager which is why I did these 1964-1967 folders for my own enjoyment. I may go back and do 1963 at some point. We'll see. Never say never!
Spending time listening to all the 67 music that did not get played in UK. There are some highs and a lot of lows. But as they say its all in the eye/ear of the beholder. What source are you using to gather this stuff? I was joking about 63, and I will look forward to wherever you go.
Thanks. 1967 what a great time for music and me, I was 16.

ReplyDeleteMost of it is sourced from my 30 TB server. The stuff I don't have I usually find the vinyl on Discogs.
